This ranking is downhill rows whose country is United States of America, grouped by state. Colorado currently has 37. New Hampshire 31. Vermont 30. Wisconsin, New York, and Pennsylvania 29 each. Michigan 26. Magazines that crown New York or Michigan are often counting a different object: licensed areas, or a table that predates this extract. The map is Colorado’s points from the same file.

Step 1. The state bars
The chart is the current S3 file. After Colorado and the northern New England pair, the Great Lakes and Pennsylvania stay in the high twenties. Idaho, Utah, Montana, Maine follow. A state with 15 mapped hills is still a full winter if you live there. The pass ads will not list most of them.

Step 2. The Northeast cluster
New Hampshire, Vermont, New York, Massachusetts, Maine, and Pennsylvania sit close enough that a road trip can touch several in a week. Count per state is not the same as drive time from your house. Open Drive Time if you need the second number. The first number is just how many OSM winter-sports packages survived analysis.

They are not stacks of Vail-owned destination villages. If a ranking surprised you, you were probably counting brands.
